First space, now candy? Elon Musk tweets yes

Billionaire Elon Musk took to Twitter to declare his next venture – and it was a sweet one.

“Im starting a candy company & its going to be amazing,” he tweeted on Saturday.

And in case you think he’s kidding, he added in another tweet, “I am super super serious.”

His initial announcement about a possible sugar-coated venture racked up more than 138,000 likes as followers swooned over the potential awesomeness.

Musk, the force behind Tesla and the exploration company SpaceX, also seemed to be challenging fellow billionaire Warren Buffettwhose Berkshire Hathaway owns See’s Candy.

The back and forth had already begun when Musk reportedly put down “moats,” which Buffett has defined as a business’s competitive edge, according to CNN.com. That apparently prompted Buffett, at his yearly Berkshire Hathaway meeting this weekend to counter that moats remain a good idea.

In another Twitter string, Musk wrote “Im going to build a moat & fill it w candy. Warren B will not be able to resist investing! Berkshire Hathaway kryptonite β”

And also: “Saying you like moats is just a nice way of saying you like oligopolies.”
