Hot Undervalued Stocks To Buy Right Now

We continue to believe that financial stocks are quite undervalued as well. During the quarter we made a new investment in Ally Financial (NYSE:ALLY). Ally was founded nearly a century ago as General Motors Acceptance Corporation. Its purpose then was to provide financing to GM dealers and retail customers. Today, Ally is no longer owned by GM. It serves a wide variety of dealers (including Ford, Chrysler and Toyota), and it is carefully building a consumer franchise. In our view, investors are myopically concerned that the auto business is at a cyclical peak. U.S. auto sales are near record levels, and credit losses are below long-term averages. Some believe Ally’s earnings have nowhere to go but down. We believe cyclical pressures will be more than offset by continued internal improvements, such as funding cost reductions (low-cost online deposits grew 19% in the third quarter of 2016) and improving the capital structure. With Ally’s stock trading at roughly 68% of tangible book value, we believe Ally is a compelling addition to the Oakmark Select Fund. We didn’t eliminate any positions during the quarter and exit 2016 with 20 investments in the portfolio.

Even with volatility returning to the market, some investors have been fortunate to find the companies that have been able to enjoy success early in the year. In particular, Fossil Group (NASDAQ:FOSL), Axon Enterprise (NASDAQ:AAXN), and Enphase Energy (NASDAQ:ENPH) have gained more than 100% so far in 2018, and some investors think they have further to climb.

Pacira Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: PCRX) has found itself in the middle of a great opportunity but not being able to make the last mile of the race. Unfortunately, pain management in a non-opioid treatment has become an elusive target. And it’s too bad when you consider how many people have become addicted to opioids in America.

The delay in an FDA decision for Tegsedi puts it behind competitor Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ALNY), which expects to hear from the FDA by Aug. 11 for its hATTR drug patisiran. But Sarah Boyce, the president at Akcea Therapeutics, doesn’t think a few months will really matter: “We don’t really feel that’s going to have any impact and the drugs will be close enough together from a launch perspective. So not really [going] to make any adjustments, and we’re very well prepared to be ready to launch following approval.”

  • [By Keith Speights]

I wrote three months ago that I viewed Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ALNY) stock as a pretty good pick — but with a couple of qualifications. First, I didn’t think that the biotech would generate returns in 2018 nearly as great as it did last year. Second, I thought that there were even better stocks to buy than Alnylam.

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ALNY) released first-quarter results last week, but all eyes were looking forward as the company waits for a potential approval of its hereditary TTR amyloidosis (ATTR) drug, patisiran.

Hot Undervalued Stocks To Buy Right Now: L Brands, Inc.(LB)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Asit Sharma]

Stock in specialty retailer L Brands, Inc. (NYSE:LB) slumped 22.5% in March, according to data fromS&P Global Market Intelligence.

L Brands’ woes began on the first day of the month, as shares lost nearly 14% in the first trading session following the company’s February 28 release of fourth-quarter and full-year 2017 earnings. Although fourth-quarter sales rose 7.4%, to $4.8 billion, comparable sales improved by just 2 percentage points. Breaking down comparable sales results, “comps” at Victoria’s Secret retail stores declined 6% during the last six months. Deteriorating traffic into Victoria’s Secret’s largely mall-based stores is a significant point of concern for shareholders — the segment is responsible for nearly 60% of total company revenue.
