Top Energy Stocks To Invest In 2019

One of the greatest strategies for investors is cultivating a watchlist. Personally, keeping a list of stocks under constant supervision has mitigated the probability that I’ll overreact and execute trades on a whim, without investigating them adequately.

In all likelihood, some stocks may never make it off the list. For example, as much as I’m rooting for Tesla to succeed in reimagining the transportation landscape, the stock has remained on my radar for years — never the subject of a buy order — and I realize it may linger on said watchlist indefinitely.

Beyond that, there are numerous stocks, like IAMGOLD (NYSE: IAG) and FuelCell Energy (NASDAQ: FCEL), which I’m certain will not only remain absent from my portfolio but from my watchlist as well. Here’s why:

Top Energy Stocks To Invest In 2019: Crestwood Equity Partners LP(CEQP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Crestwood Equity Partners LP (NYSE:CEQP) isn’t a household name, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth getting to know a little better. In fact, the midstream partnership is working with a few companies you may have heard of before, like New York utility Consolidated Edison, Inc. (NYSE:ED). And while leverage is an issue to watch, partnering up with companies like Con Ed should allow Crestwood to keep growing while keeping leverage to a minimum. Here’s some of the details you’ll want to know if Crestwood’s 7.5% distribution yield interests you.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Four that stand out are Crestwood Equity Partners (NYSE:CEQP), TerraForm Power (NASDAQ:TERP), Brookfield Infrastructure Partners (NYSE:BIP), and W.P. Carey (NYSE:WPC). Not only does each currently offer more than double the yield of the average bank CD and stock in the S&P, but those income streams are likely to grow in the coming years.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Crestwood Equity Partners’ (NYSE:CEQP) first-quarter results once again showed that it’s heading in the right direction. As a result, the company is on pace to create significant value for investors over the next couple of years. That was the key message CEO Bob Phillips wanted to get across on the accompanying conference call, where he laid out four reasons why he thinks the company is an extremely compelling investment opportunity right now.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

While Crestwood Equity Partners (NYSE:CEQP) isn’t a well-known name, it should be, especially by income-seeking investors. That’s because the high-yielding master limited partnership (MLP) offers an increasingly compelling combination of current income and future upside backed by strong financial metrics and clearly visible growth prospects. The company’s strong core and upside potential was on full display during the first quarter, which once again showed that this is an excellent income stock to own for the long haul.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Meanwhile, Williams Companies recently announced several strategic moves that position it for additional growth. First, the company and its 50-50 joint venture partner, Crestwood Equity Partners (NYSE:CEQP), agreed to expand their Jackalope Gas Gathering System and the associated Bucking Horse gas processing plant in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin to support the growth of Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK). Williams and Crestwood expect to finish the first phase of this expansion by the end of 2019, which coincides with Chesapeake’s plan to double its output from the region in the next year. They also noted that further expansions of the system might be needed soon, since regional growth could use up all its capacity by 2021.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

First, the company and its joint venture (JV) partner Crestwood Equity Partners (NYSE:CEQP) approved the expansion of their Jackalope gathering and processing business in the Powder River Basin. The expansion projects will supply Williams with some incremental cash flow as they come on line over the next year, while giving the smaller Crestwood some additional fuel to help grow its earnings at a 15% compound annual rate through 2020.

Top Energy Stocks To Invest In 2019: Ballard Power Systems, Inc.(BLDP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Maxx Chatsko]

That may not be surprising to investors considering the massive Chinese market has lifted diverse sectors and industries in the last two decades, but China may prove critical to the success of struggling fuel cell stocks. Can Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ:BLDP) and Plug Power (NASDAQ:PLUG) capitalize on the opportunity in the East?

  • [By Travis Hoium]

Shares of Ballard Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ:BLDP) jumped as much as 24.1% in trading Tuesday after the company announced a large strategic investment. At 12:40 p.m. EDT, shares were still up 16.7% on the day.

That much becomes clear after taking a look at fuel cell stocks Plug Power (NASDAQ:PLUG) and Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ:BLDP). The companies generated just $235 million in revenue combined last year. While that would seem to indicate that the technology has a ways to go, a closer look shows both companies are on an upward trajectory as they position to exploit decarbonization trends. It also reveals two different growth strategies.

Top Casino Stocks To Own Right Now

Over the years, I’ve been a big fan of investing in the gaming sector. Long term abnormal returns in sin stocks are well documented, but even in the short term, volatility has often created instances of asymmetric risk/reward opportunities. Over the past several years, and more so than international players like Wynn Resorts (WYNN) or Melco Resorts (MLCO), the regional casino players have truly outperformed. That should not be a surprise given the rest of the market has reacted a similar way: domestic sales good, international sales bad. The United States just has been the place to invest, with regionals seeing strong lift from accelerating consumer confidence and accompanying healthy GDP growth; tax reform and industry consolidation have helped as well. Operationally, margins have seen a lot of lift from cost cutting and less promotional spending.

The past is not the future, and unfortunately Boyd Gaming (BYD) looks to have peaked. Poor market positioning, demographic and population headwinds, and cost pressure from wages all are set to combine to limit EBITDA growth and pressure investor sentiment. With shares near all-time highs, investors would be none the wiser that problems are on the horizon, but I see headwinds. My expectation is for 25-30% downside, with a pair trade against regional peer standout Red Rock Resorts (RRR) set to be a strong generator of potential alpha.

Top 10 Heal Care Stocks For 2019

Shares of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals (SPPI) have risen by 25% since my December “buy the dip” piece was published.

Figure 1: SPPI daily advanced chart (Source: Finviz Elite) (Disclosure: Contains affiliate link)

While I was miffed that I had missed the stock in summer after it popped up in scans and I did nothing (bias against former management led to inaction), I still believed that weakness in December offered a buying opportunity for a number of reasons.

The principal reason for conviction here was drug candidate poziotinib in EGFR Exon 20 Mutant Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), which showed a remarkable 73% objective response rate in interim data from a mid-stage study. This was especially impressive when one considers the dire straits these patients were in (single-digit response rate on first generation TKIs and PFS of 2 months) and that all 11 study patients receiving the 16 mg daily dose experienced some degree of tumor shrinkage. An added bonus was evidence of CNS activity, while a point of caution that required clarification was the safety profile (dose reductions were necessary for 55% of patients).

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jim Robertson]

On Thursday, our Under the Radar Moversnewsletter suggested shorting small cap rare disease stock Abeona Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ABEO):

Abeona Therapeutics is clearly a timing trade – we think today’s something of a blowoff top, marked by a volume surge and the fact that the stock’s already peeling back from its peak; the profit-takers are already going to work. We saw a similar surge on Tuesday, and though that one didn’t end up kick-starting a pullback, it helped set up today’s reversal bar (by virtue of luring in the last of the would-be buyers). There’s just not a lot of room left for more upside.

MGT Capital Investments Inc. (OTCMKTS: MGTI), Long Island Iced Tea Corp. (Nasdaq: LTEA), Riot Blockchain Inc. (Nasdaq: RIOT), and Siebert Financial Corp. Top 10 Heal Care Stocks For 2019: Agrium Inc.(AGU)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Chad Fraser]

The agriculture ETF is heavily weighted toward the U.S., with 45.8% of its assets there, but it is geographically diverse, with exposure to countries such as Canada (9.9%), Switzerland (8.5%), Japan (6.7%) and Singapore (5.1%).

Potash Cartel Breakup Has Weighed on This Agriculture ETF

The ETF’s unit price declined in the first half of 2013, partly because of the breakup of the Belarusian Potash Company (BPC), through which Russia’s Uralkali, the world’s No. 1 potash producer, and Belaruskali of Belarus distribute their potash. The market is dominated by BPC and Canpotex, owned by Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (NYSE: POT), Mosaic and Agrium Inc. (NYSE: AGU).

Together, the two cartels control 70% of global potash exports, so the breakup of BPC will result in a more fractured market, which seems likely to push potash prices lower. Shares of major potash producers fell sharply on the news, as did Market Vectors Agribusiness ETF due to its potash stock holdings, which include Agrium, Potash Corp. and Mosaic.

  • [By Jon C. Ogg]

Gains are being seen elsewhere as well, except in shares of The Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS). AgriumInc. (NYSE: AGU) was up almost 3% at $91.95 in late Monday trading, although this one held up much better in the destructive news phase when the alarming news roiled these stocks. The big winner is Intrepid Potash, Inc. (NYSE: IPI), with a gain of 7% to $16.20 in late-Monday trading.

FedEx (NYSE:FDX) (+12%; +1.00%), one of the world’s largest package delivery networks, contributed in the quarter. The company continued its excellent earnings momentum, driven currently by revenue strength and margin gains in the Express segment. The Ground segment revenues stayed incredibly strong, although margins were down as the company invested heavily in growth. We believe that the company is close to a point where Ground margins turn around and begin to grow as the large scale investment in new hubs slows. The company also communicated that the integration of its TNT acquisition from last year is going well, providing future earnings upside even though for now, TNT results are dilutive. Some of the investor panic around Amazon hurting FedEx as a competitor has also begun to subside, for logical reasons related to FedEx’s physical scale and last mile density. FedEx is heavily weighted as the Fund’s second largest position, reflecting our confidence in CEO Fred Smith and his team, as well as in FedEx’s competitive strength and long-term value growth. We did trim our stake in the quarter, however, following the stock’s appreciation.

Top 10 Heal Care Stocks To Invest In 2018: GTx Inc.(GTXI)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

One biopharmaceutical player that’s rapidly moving within range of triggering a major breakout trade is GTx (GTXI), which is dedicated to the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecules that selectively target hormone pathways to treat cancer, osteoporosis and bone loss, muscle loss and other serious medical condition. This stock has been hammered by the bears so far in 2013, with shares off sharply by 53%.

If you look at the chart for GTx, you’ll notice that this stock recently gapped down sharply from over $4 to below $1.50 a share with heavy downside volume. Following that gap down, shares of GTXI have rebounded sharply and started to uptrend, with the stock moving higher from its low of $1.31 to its recent high of $1.96 a share. During that move, shares of GTXI have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of GTXI within range of triggering a major breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in GTXI if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance at $1.96 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 1.35 million shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then GTXI will set up to re-fill some of its previous gap down zone from August that started just above $4 a share. Some possible upside targets if GTXI gets into that gap with volume are $2.50 to $3 a share, or possibly even $3.50 a share.

Traders can look to buy GTXI off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support at $1.50 a share. One can also buy GTXI off strength once it takes out $1.96 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Huge swings like that aren’t uncommon for small companies, but what was unusual was the apparent lack of rationale for the drop.

As both an Air Canada top tier elite and Aeroplan top tier member I generate well in excess of 1.5 million Aeroplan miles annually, half from flying Air Canada and its partners and the other half from spending. As consumers we were concerned with Air Canada’s decision (though we expect more details to come out that will alleviate these concerns) but as investors we understand that the fundamental business model of mileage programs are incredibly attractive and that Aimia presents an incredibly rare and lucrative investment opportunity for the investor discerning enough to dig into the company.

When it comes to equities, a good ETF to monitor is the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (NYSE Arca: DIA). Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Buy Right Now

Ive been right about Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) thus far.

There seem to be only two schools on Tesla. You either love the carmaker, or you hate it with a passion. I fall into the latter category, not because I’m anti clean energy, or opposed to new entries to the auto industry, but because of the grandiose and inefficient management history the company has had under Elon Musk. Ive written often about the competition and general cutthroat nature of the auto industry that Tesla faces. Ive been waiting for some time to see signs of Teslas inability to ramp up car production in a way that justifies its wild stock valuation. And boy howdy have I taken some flak in the comments section.

This week has given me some vindication on my feelings about Tesla. The stock is down on rough news of production complications, and a fading faith in Elon Musks rhetoric, something I said would happen. The valuation is not justified, and cannot be justified when youre selling such a small amount of cars and not turning any profit. I get it that this stock performance is about future potential earnings, but the company is not putting together concrete evidence that it is working toward those types of numbers.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Flexing the barbell strategy to balance Safe Havens with more cyclical exposures. In our view, industrials investors should be positioning their portfolio with a barbell strategy, with half of the exposure in Safe Havens like General Electric, Xylem (XYL), Danaher, Honeywell International, Roper Technologies (ROP), and AMETEK (AME), and the other half selectively in the cyclical names that are better positioned today, such as Pentair, HD Supply Holdings (HDS),Actuant (ATU), Atkore International Group (ATKR), Ingersoll-Rand, and Eaton (ETN). We still believe risk-reward is mostly balanced and that the macro will remain choppy into 2017, supporting a positioning in the defensive names. But if investor sentiment improves on not-worse news and earnings results, the more cyclical names could fare better.

The industry — valued at over $150 billion and comprising companies such as Wipro Limited (ADR) (NYSE: WIT), Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp (NASDAQ: CTSH), Infosys Ltd ADR (NYSE: INFY) and Tata Consultancy Services — has thus far been competing effectively on certain unique selling propositions such as low-cost technology skills and high quality manpower.

That’s a pretty good definition of leadership, but it’s not an easy one to accomplish. However, the CEOs of Celgene (NASDAQ:CELG), Cognizant Technology Solutions (NASDAQ:CTSH), General Electric (NYSE:GE), MasterCard (NYSE:MA), and Texas Instruments (NASDAQ:TXN) have been able to achieve this translation very well.

Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Buy Right Now: Fitbit, Inc.(FIT)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Nicholas Rossolillo]

It has been a year worth forgetting for shareholders of Fitbit (NYSE:FIT). The wearables maker has seen sales sputter and profitability took a big hit thanks to a steep increase in expenses. However, much of that money has been aggressively put into research and development in the past year. While that has contributed to the dismal-looking bottom line, investing for the future is a good thing.

While the economy’s natural — and recurring — cycles favor different kinds of stocks at different times, not every great trend is necessarily a cyclical one. Sometimes, a trend is rooted in a technological development that changes cultural norms. The advent of the smartphone, for example, has made constant connectivity to the world around part of how we live our daily lives.

These mega-trends present tremendous opportunities for investors too, provided they’re savvy enough to see them coming and play them the right way.

One such mega-trend newly underway right now is the proliferation of wearables… devices that meld clothing (often a wrist-worn device) and technology to perform a function that couldn’t be performed otherwise. Much of the same technology that made the smartphone possible are now ushering in wearables.

It’s not been a smooth beginning. however.

While the buzz was strong and expectations reached a peak two years ago when Fitbit Inc (NYSE:FIT) was all the rage and in the wake of its IPO, the company’s growth wasn’t to be sustained. The company is struggling to muster any growth now, and FIT shares have fallen to a tenth of their value seen in late-2015, when the euphoria was strongest.

Fitbit’s slowdown has been mirrored by other companies in the space. The wearables market only grew 3.1% in Q3 of 2016.

On the flipside, while the debacle of Fitbit — the wearable industry’s iconic company — has been a painful, it’s also been a learning experience. And, it’s not as if the slowdown is unfurling without the wearables market never reaching a respectable size. International Data Corporation estimates were 23 million ‘wearables’ delivered in the third quarter of last year alone.

Moreover, the fizzling of the market hasn’t turned into a reason to swear off wearables as an investment opportunity… quite the opposite, actually. It’s just now become considerably clearer what consumers want an

UBS analyst John Roberts and team consider whether Sherwin-Williams’ (SHW) pending purchase of Valspar (VAL) is a sign of peak pain in the U.S.:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Chilton first bought Sherwin Williamsduring the depths of the Great Recession. Why? “Paint is a good business,” he says. “There are 134 million homes in the US. I like knowing that when I got to bed at night…there paint will be peeling.” And while Sherwin Williamshas had quite a run, there’s a good reason to buy now: Its acquisition of Valspar (VAL).

Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Buy Right Now: Ford Motor Company(F)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jack Foley]

Ford’s (NYSE:F)decision to take on more long-termdebt could be a sign of things to come for the auto manufacturer. The company is borrowing $2 billion making it the first time the company will be accessing the debt market in 4 years. Currently, Ford’s debt to equity ratio is 2.86 so this will obviously increase once more debt is added on the books. I have stated in myprevious commentary that Ford will want it’s electrified and autonomous technology to pay off in the near term.

Earlier in the month, California-basedelectric car manufacturer Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) surpassed Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) and General Motors (NYSE:GM) to become the most valuable U.S car company. While the traditional auto manufacturers are getting hit by the slowdown in the U.S auto industry, there seems to be no impact on Tesla Inc. For the month of March, both Ford and General Motorsreported a miss on deliveries. Ford Motor saw its deliveries fall by over 7% YoY in March while GM’s deliveriesgrew by just over 1%. In contrast, Tesla Inc reported 69% YoY increase in deliveries (albeit on much smaller base) handsomely beating analysts estimates. As a result, while Tesla stock has surged, shares of Ford Motor and GM took a hit. Over the past one month, shares of Tesla Inc have gained more than 20%, while GM and Ford have seen their shares fall by around 10% in the same period.

Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Buy Right Now: Abeona Therapeutics Inc.(ABEO)

  • [By Jim Robertson]

Small and micro cap stocks can obviously be a fickle bunch, but I sure hope all of you participated in Abeona Therapeutics Inc. (ABEO) back when we first put the idea out there in early June. What a tremendous stock this has been for all of us, and it’s not like this happens all of the time.
