Top Low Price Stocks To Buy For 2019

It’s not so easy to size up Walmart (NYSE:WMT) these days. For decades, the retailer’s strategy was as reliable as the sunrise: Open up hundreds of supercenters every year, keep costs low, and offer customers “everyday low prices.”

For a long time, that strategy drove consistent profit growth and propelled the big-box chain to retail dominance, but like many things in business, it worked until it didn’t. The rise of Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and e-commerce disrupted Walmart’s leadership and undermined the strength of both its pricing strategy and brick-and-mortar expansion.

Under CEO Doug McMillon, who took the helm in 2014, Walmart has reinvented itself. The retailer has essentially stopped opening new stores, instead investing that capital into paying employees better, providing more training, cleaning up stores, and eliminating out-of-stockages — all in an effort to improve the in-store experience. The company has also aggressively pivoted to e-commerce, quickly adding grocery pickup stations at its stores, expecting to have more than 2,000 of them by the end of this year. It boosted its exposure to e-commerce by acquiring Jet.com for $3.3 billion and followed that up with smaller e-commerce acquisitions like Bonobos and Modcloth.

Top 10 Casino Stocks For 2019: Rockwell Collins, Inc.(COL)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Lee Samaha]

Third Point’s first-quarter letter to investors outlined the position in United Technologies and the rationale behind Loeb’s belief that breaking up the company is the best way forward for investors. For reference, the multi-industrial company comprises four segments: Otis elevators; UTC climate controls & security (CCS), specializing in air-conditioning, refrigeration and security; UTC aerospace systems (UTAS); and Pratt & Whitney, maker of aircraft engines. Loeb’s key points are as follows:

The company’s one-size-fits-all approach has led to a “well-documented history of poor management execution.” A spinoff would create value in the manner of recent precedents in the industrial sector, and allow for more-focused management of the newly created companies. The failure of the market to value United Technologies appropriately to its intrinsic value reflects how investors value aerospace companies (with a long-term perspective, which acceptsnear-term losses on multiyear programs) and multi-industrial companies (by using multiples of next year’s earnings). Shareholders are best served by splitting up the company into three separate ones, specifically Otis; CCS; and an aerospace company built from UTAS, Pratt & Whitney, and the impending acquisition of Rockwell Collins (NYSE:COL).

To this, I would add that there’s a bewildering number of investment decisions you need to make before buying United Technologies stock right now. For example, you might be worried about growth in construction in China (Otis), or long-term prospects for aerospace suppliers against margin pressure from Boeing and Airbus (UTAS, Rockwell Collins) trying to cut costs or compete directly, or even margin pressure on air-conditioning products (CCS) from rising raw-material costs. All of which give you a good reason not to buy the stock.

Following billionaire investor Warren Buffett into stocks he owns has often been a profitable strategy over the past few decades. But reversing the orderbuying a stock before Buffett buys itcan potentially be even more rewarding.

Quiz: How Well Do You Really Know Warren Buffett?

With that in mind, we went prospecting for companies that Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-B, $137), Buffetts holding company, has been buying recently, and four stocks that Buffett doesnt hold but we think he ought to buy. We looked for the things he favors: com颅panies that are leaders in their industries, that have a strong commitment to sharing profit with investors, and whose stocks sell for relatively low prices compared with earnings and underlying asset value.

A few caveats: First, even Buffett makes mistakes. Second, many of Berkshires picks are now made by Buffetts two investing deputies, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler, not Buffett himself. And third, anyone guessing which stocks might be attractive to Berkshire is doing just thatguessing.

Advisors’ Opinion:

Tuesday was another down day for the Dow Jones Industrials, which fell more than 100 points to drop further below the 20,000 level. But broader market measures were mixed, and the Nasdaq Composite even managed to gain ground. Continued uncertainty about the impact of new policies from the U.S. federal government have kept markets a bit turbulent, and the beginning of a two-day meeting of the Federal Reserve’s Open Market Committee could set the tone for monetary policy in 2017. Some stocks had bad news that sent them lower today, and among the worst performers were Seadrill (NYSE:SDRL), Roadrunner Transportation Systems (NYSE:RRTS), and Tempur Sealy International (NYSE:TPX). Top 10 Low Price Stocks To Watch For 2018: Terex Corporation(TEX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Third and a trigger for the change: China becomes an active bidder in the space. Chinas Zoomlion bid for Terex (TEX) ($3.3B) along with Haier/General Electric (GE) ($5.4B) and several ChemChina proposed deals in industrials changes the upside/downside skew, particularly on lower quality/more challenged names. The Terex bid does not appear to be one-off. Chinese outbound M&A announcements rose to record highs in 15; to $112B (up 57% from 2014) in total acquisitions. Industrials formed a large and rising portion, at ~12B completed. Thats roughly equal to the 3 prior years industrials deals combined, and is the highest on record. Energy and materials accounted for ~15% of 15 spend vs. ~83% in 2011. Even lower quality or more currently challenged machinery franchises have distribution which could be highly attractive to new entrants…

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

RBC’sSeth Weber and team offer their thoughts on Zoomlion’s revised bid for Terex (TEX):

    Bloomberg News

After the close today, Terex announced that it is moving forward in its negotiations with Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science and Technology Co. following receipt of a non-binding proposal from the Chinese company to acquire all outstanding shares for $31/share in cash.

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Ever walk past a construction site? It’s hard not to be enthralled by all the heavy construction machinery moving things around. With the world’s developing economies still building at a relatively fast pace and developing economies, like the United States, in desperate need of upgrading their aging infrastructure, the companies behind that construction machinery could be just as exciting as a construction site in the years ahead. Which is why Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT), Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CMI), and Terex Corporation (NYSE:TEX) are three of the top construction machinery stocks to look at right now.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Yesterday, Terex (TEX) announced that it would sell its ports business to Konecranes for $1.3 billion. Today, Baird’s Mircea Dobre and Joseph Grabowski upgraded Terex to Outperform from Neutral, arguing that the sale makes a takeover by China’s Zoomlion that much easier. They explain:

    Balint Porneczi/Bloomberg News

The sale of MHPS to Konecranes is a positive catalyst on multiple fronts: shareholders got an attractive multiple for what historically has been a challenged business with further upside possible given 25% equity ownership in Konecranes, execution risk is diminished as new CEO can focus on operational improvement without the effort required to integrate the Terex and Konecranes businesses, and finally, the MHPS sale makes it easier for Zoomlion to acquire remaining Terex.

While our upgrade is not reliant on Zoomlion acquiring Terex, the MHPS transaction could make a firm Zoomlion offer more likely.

At the margin, a Zoomlion deal appears easier to get done: 1) the remaining businesses fit better with Zoomlions existing product portfolio of construction equipment, cranes, and various commercial and municipal equipment, 2) given the attractive terms of the MHPS sale, the funding hurdle required to acquire Terex is lowered, 3) many of the CFIUS issues center around national security concerns regarding the nations ports, no longer a concern given MHPS sale.

Dobre and Grabowski also raised their price target on Terex to $30, up from $24. With Terex off 0.1% at $24.88 today, that leaves 21% upside in the stock to Baird’s target.

In February, I wrote about Chinese demand for U.S. companies, including Terex.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Shares of Terex (TEX) had surged 32% as of the close of trading last Thursday–but dropped 14% the next day after China’s Zoomlion announced that it wouldn’t be pursuing a purchase of the U.S. crane maker after all. In the aftermath of the scuttled deal, Morgan Stanley’s Mili Pothiwala and Nigel Coe cut Terex to Equal Weight from Overweight:

    Balint Porneczi/Bloomberg News

On Friday morning, Zoomlion announced it had terminated its bid for its proposed acquisition of Terex for $31/ share. This was a clear negative for Terex shares, which traded down ~15% on Friday to $20, given the absence of an event-driven catalyst (following the sale of MHPS to Konecranes, which we assume will be completed). However, we think that the stock’s current discount to the Machinery group on a P/E basis (20%+) is justified, given a still challenged underlying operating environment for the RemainCo, as well as historically uneven company execution – both of which return to the forefront of the investment debate following the removal of the M&A bull case.

To which all we can say is: Oops.

Shares of Terex have dropped 0.5% to $20.78

The recent earning announcement on May 31, 2017 created sudden fear in the public’s mind and brought the stock price of Michael Kors (NYSE:KORS) down by around 9% in one day. As of this writing, the price remains at $33. In this article, I will discuss one negative and five positives, and explain why you should consider buying the stock at this low price.

One Negative

One negative, but a big one, that dragged down the stock price was the earning disappointment mainly driven by the macroeconomic situations in retail sector.

The entire retail sector has faced strong headwinds in recent years due to the emergence of online retailers (predominantly Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)), a strong dollar and a reduced number of tourists shopping in the U.S. The affected companies include Macy’s (NYSE:M), JCPenny (NYSE:JCP), Coach (NYSE:COH), Michael Kors, etc. The negative trends have driven down the stock price of the affected companies significantly in recent years, and the concern is legitimate in general,

Looking at where the stock is today compared to one year ago, we find that it is not only higher, but it has also clearly outperformed the rise in the S&P 500 over the same period. Although other factors naturally played a role, the company’s strong earnings growth was key. Looking ahead, our view is that this company’s fundamentals will not have much impact in either direction, allowing the stock to generally move up or down based on the push and pull of the broad market.

We rate CONAGRA FOODS INC as a Hold with a ratings score of C+. The primary factors that have impacted our rating are mixed – some indicating strength, some showing weaknesses, with little evidence to justify the expectation of either a positive or negative performance for this stock relative to most other stocks. The company’s strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its solid stock price performance, revenue growth and growth in earnings per share. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including deteriorating net income, generally higher debt management risk and disappointing return on equity.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

Despite its growing revenue, the company underperformed as compared with the industry average of 2.3%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly increased by 1.1%. Growth in the company’s revenue appears to have helped boost the earnings per share.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now

The recipe for successful long-term investing is simple in theory but difficult in practice: Buy shares of high-quality companies; pay reasonable prices for those shares; and hold on to them for many years, unless there are legitimate reasons to sell. Failing at any one of those steps will cause trouble.

Any stock could double over the next decade, but only some have an above-average shot at doing so. These Motley Fool investors think following are these such stocks. Here’s what you need to know.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now:AbbVie Inc.(ABBV)

Worry that its best-selling drug would soon face competition because of expiring patents may have caused you to remove AbbVie from your radar. However, the likelihood of competition to Humira has fallen considerably, and that suggests income investors ought to be looking at it again.

Humira is a widely used autoimmune disease drug. In 2017, its sales of more than $18 billion accounted for about 65% of AbbVie’s revenue. Patents protecting Humira have already begun to expire, but a favorable patent decision last fall prompted competitor Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) to ink a nonexclusive deal with AbbVie that should keep Humira copycats at bay in the U.S. until 2023.

The extra time is great news because AbbVie has a lot of late-stage drugs that could reach the market before Humira’s sales begin to drop. Over the next year, it plans FDA filings for Rova-T, a solid-tumor cancer drug; upadacitinib, a rheumatoid arthritis drug; and risankizumab, a psoriasis drug. All three of those drugs target multibillion-dollar indications and thus could be blockbusters.

AbbVie has FDA approvals pending for an endometriosis drug, Elagolix, and a chronic lymphocytic leukemia drug, Venclexta, that have billion-dollar potential, too.

The company has increased its dividend by 77% since it was spun out of Abbott Labs (NYSE:ABT) in 2013. Since management expects its effective tax rate to fall to 9% in 2018, from over 30% last year, and thinks new drugs could increase non-Humira sales from $9 billion to as much as $35 billion in 2025, there’s reason to think even more dividend increases are coming.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now:AeroVironment, Inc.(AVAV)

Drones have been a topic of excitement in the press for years, but very few companies generate meaningful revenue from them. One that does is AeroVironment, the leading supplier of small drones to the military. The company makes drones used for surveillance and combat support, and some drones even have been equipped with strike capabilities.

In the first three quarters of fiscal 2018, drone revenue jumped 36% to $153.7 million and gross margin in the segment was up 51% to $55.3 million. The company also has a growing presence with customers other than the U.S. military, highlighted by a $44.5 million order from a Middle Eastern country in March. Commercial drone use is beginning to expand as well, with surveillance, energy production, and agriculture shaping up as major growth markets. According to Statistics MRC, the small drone market is expected to grow from $6.8 billion in 2016 to $14.7 billion in 2023.

Drones are AeroVironment’s biggest business, but it’s not the only industry in which the company is positioned for growth. AeroVironment is one of the leaders in electric vehicle (EV) chargers, with solutions for consumers, businesses, and emerging charging networks. The segment isn’t growing as quickly as drones, but charger revenue in the first three quarters of fiscal 2018 grew 6% to $27.9 million and gross profit improved 17% to $7.9 million. If electric vehicles grow from about 1% of auto sales in 2015 to 24% of sales in 2025, as Bloomberg New Energy Finance predicts, this could be another segment that grows exponentially in the next decade.

AeroVironment’s current price-to-earnings ratio of 41 is expensive, but both drones and EV chargers are going to be big growth businesses over the next decade, and I think this is a stock that’s worth paying a premium for.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now:Centene Corporation(CNC)

Centene Corp (NYSE:CNC) operates as a diversified and multi-national healthcare enterprise that provides programs and services to under-insured and uninsured individuals in the United States.

The company’s total revenue stands at $48.3 billion as of its latest fiscal year. This is nearly 5x higher than the $8.1 billion achieved five years prior.

Going forward, analysts are forecasting that Centene’s total revenue will reach $87.9 billion by fiscal year 2022 representing a five-year CAGR of 12.7%.

Shares of the company are trading 54.2% higher year over year. But the stock price could end up trading another 31.6% higher in 2018 based on Centene’s future cash flow projections.

It’s worth noting that highly followed portfolio manager David Tepper currently holds a position in Centene worth $76.5 million. Tepper, founder and portfolio manager at Appaloosa Management, is widely known for having inspired what’s been dubbed the Tepper Rally of 2010.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now:Orange(ORAN)

Many American investors are unfamiliar with Orange. Formerly known as France Telecom, it is the largest provider of landline and mobile phone services in France, with a large and growing presence in developing markets around the world. All told, the company serves 273 million customers.

Orange’s stock comes with a generous 4.35% yield at today’s share prices. The dividend policy is very European in nature, as Orange adjusts the quarterly payments up and down as circumstances allow, not worrying about boosting the payouts without fail every year.

More to the point, Orange is working through an ambitious cost-savings program while expanding its presence in the promising telecom markets of Eastern Europe. Those attractive dividends are backed by free cash flows, which covered all of Orange’s payouts last year with some room to spare.

I’m a big fan of telecoms chasing growth in underdeveloped markets, and Orange is doing exactly that while producing stellar dividends and rock-solid cash flows. In fact, I like this company so much that I own the stock myself.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now:Mastercard Incorporated(MA)

Let’s do a double for this one: Visa Inc (NYSE:V) and Mastercard Inc (NYSE:MA). Both companies are huge beneficiaries of the same trend, as global consumers continue moving to credit and debit from cash and check. Further, growing e-commerce sales bode well for V and MA too, for obvious reasons.

The credit card business is attractive for many reasons, as V and MA serve as simple “toll booth” businesses. They don’t lend consumers money and they don’t take on big risks. Instead, when a consumer purchases goods or services from a merchant and pays via credit card, the merchant pays a fee that goes to V and MA.

While the pair of stocks may look expensive on a sales basis at first glance, the earnings-based valuation isn’t all that bad. Especially considering their double-digit earnings and revenue growth.

Throw in the fact that Visa has profit margins of almost 40% while MA has margins of 32% and we can see that these two are earning money hand over fist.

Both stocks tend to trade with a high correlation. They’ve been in a steady uptrend since early 2017 and I hate that I’ve taken some off the table since I first initiated a position almost six years ago.

As V and MA both bump up against resistance, they look like they’ll soon push through to new highs, short of another market-wide selloff.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now:Tiffany & Co.(TIF)

Luxury goods company Tiffany & Co. (NYSE:TIF), like many other retail stocks, is struggling to find any positive momentum whatsoever in 2018. The stock is off more than 9% through the first few months of the year – far worse than the broader market’s 1.9% declines.

That said, it’s not all thorns for Tiffany.

Just a few months ago, the company reported a solid holiday-season quarter that included a 5% jump in comparable-store sales and an 8% improvement in the top line, largely bolstered by impressive performances from the Asia-Pacific region and Europe. That led Tiffany to upgrade its own outlook for the fiscal year’s profits.

Sometime near the end of May, shareholders should be on the receiving end of another dividend hike. Tiffany has upgraded its payout by nearly 50% over the past five years, and is likely to tack on an additional bump during the last week of the month.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now:Tesla Motors, Inc.(TSLA)

Tesla (TSLA) shares are on the verge of breaking down out of a multimonth consolidation range amid ongoing Model 3 production woes, executive departures and fresh worries about the future of autonomous vehicles after an Uber self-driving car killed a pedestrian.

Goldman Sachs analysts, in a recent note, reiterated a sell rating on worries about output and Q1 deliveries.

The company will next report results on May 2 after the close. Analysts are looking for a loss of $3.22 per share on revenues of $3.6 billion. When the company last reported on Feb. 7, a loss of $3.04 per share beat estimates by 11 cents on a 43.9% rise in revenues.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now:Network-1 Technologies, Inc.(NTIP)

(NYSEAMERICAN:NTIP) has a market cap of $65 million, so it isn’t a game changer at this point. And from the looks of things, it may not get the opportunity to even try its hand becoming a force.

Its specialty is protecting intellectual property assets. Granted this is huge deal in the tech sector where knowledge is almost as important as products. If you don’t have the ability to keep your new tech ideas out of the hands of competitors, you don’t have a chance.

Most of NTIP’s IP portfolio deals with networks and Quality of Service (QoS) patents for delivering content over the internet.

It’s off 42% in the past year, but there’s no reason to go bargain hunting now.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now:Catalent, Inc.(CTLT)

Our first pick from the medical-drug sector is Catalent Inc (NYSE:CTLT). This New Jersey-based company has an Earnings ESP of +1.70% and a Zacks Rank of 3.

The Zacks Consensus Estimate for first-quarter earnings is pegged at 39 cents per share. The company flaunts a positive earnings surprise record, outshining expectations in all the last four quarters with an average beat of 16.44%.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks To Watch Right Now:Magellan Midstream Partners L.P.(MMP)

This company is among the most conservatively run midstream oil and natural gas players. Its debt-to-EBITDA ratio is well below industry bellwethers like Enterprise Products Partners L.P. and Kinder Morgan, Inc. And it avoids dilutive unit issuance, with its unit count effectively flat over the past five years compared to a roughly 17% rise at Enterprise.

With Magellan’s price down roughly 33% from 2014 highs, it’s a good time for investors to pick up an industry-leading name on the cheap. But why the sell-off?

The answer is that investor sentiment on the midstream space has turned negative, with the Alerian MLP ETF down 50% from its highs. The negative shift isn’t unreasonable, as some midstream players are highly leveraged and a number have been forced to trim distributions. But neither of those issues apply to Magellan, which has increased its distribution every quarter since its IPO in 2001.

MMP Average Diluted Shares Outstanding (Quarterly) Chart

MMP AVERAGE DILUTED SHARES OUTSTANDING (QUARTERLY) DATA BY YCHARTS.

More important for the future, Magellan plans to keep increasing distributions between 5% and 8% a year between now and 2020 while maintaining robust distribution coverage of 1.2 times. The key is its pipeline of capital investments. But Magellan doesn’t build on spec, it only risks its unitholders’ money when it has a good reason to do so.

For example, of the roughly $1.2 billion in spending planned for this year and next, virtually all of the projects have customers lined up, which clearly illustrates a need for expansion at existing assets. As an industry standout, Magellan is a solid option for any investor.

The Elevator Pitch

Zooplus (OTC:ZOPLY) (OTC:ZLPSF) is the leading online retailer of pet food and supplies in Europe. Generally, in a commoditized market such as selling pet food, the lowest cost provider with the best customer service has the “right to win”. We believe that Zooplus will be this winner, given its structural cost advantage versus its competitors (which we explore below). Additionally, customer satisfaction is extremely high, and we can clearly see customers’ appreciation for the company’s value proposition, as evidenced by the 94% sales retention rate. These unbeatable low prices and high customer satisfaction have led to a 31% annualized sales growth rate since 2010, while still possessing a long runway for continued expansion.

We believe the market is underestimating the long-term earnings power of the firm and consequently significantly undervaluing the company. For instance, the stock is currently trading at 0.9x 2016 sales while comparable acquisitions have taken place at 2-6x multiples. Additionally, we believe at maturity, the business will have normalized operating margins of 8-10%, implying a valuation of ~10x normalized EBIT.

Advisors’ Opinion:

Flexing the barbell strategy to balance Safe Havens with more cyclical exposures. In our view, industrials investors should be positioning their portfolio with a barbell strategy, with half of the exposure in Safe Havens like General Electric, Xylem (XYL), Danaher, Honeywell International, Roper Technologies (ROP), and AMETEK (AME), and the other half selectively in the cyclical names that are better positioned today, such as Pentair, HD Supply Holdings (HDS),Actuant (ATU), Atkore International Group (ATKR), Ingersoll-Rand, and Eaton (ETN). We still believe risk-reward is mostly balanced and that the macro will remain choppy into 2017, supporting a positioning in the defensive names. But if investor sentiment improves on not-worse news and earnings results, the more cyclical names could fare better.

Despite reports that both countries are working behind the scenes to prevent additional detrimental trade policies, both countries recently proposed tens of billions in new tariffs on one another.
