NEW YORK The outspoken CEO of the largest automotive dealership chain in the U.S. publicly questioned the market value of Tesla on Tuesday, escalating the rivalry between traditional dealers and the electric-vehicle maker.

Tesla is “either one of the great Ponzi schemes of all time or its gonna work out,” AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson said at a forum presented ahead of theahead of the New York Auto Show by the National Automobile Dealers Association and consultantstheJ.D.Power.

His comments came a day after Tesla briefly passed General Motors as the most valuable American automaker, as measured by market capitalization.

Top Undervalued Stocks To Own Right Now: Sage Therapeutics, Inc.(SAGE)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Friday was a poor day on Wall Street, as the Dow Jones Industrials fell 200 points and other major benchmarks lost about 1%. Rising bond yields were a major source of consternation among those following the financial markets, with the 10-year Treasury hitting 2.95% and helping to send mortgage rates sharply higher. Even though earnings season has gone fairly well for many companies, some investors are also starting to realize that political issues are likely to cloud the outlook for the U.S. economy in the coming months, creating more uncertainty that could stymie further market gains. Some bad news affecting individual companies also added to the negative mood. Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE:SWK), ManpowerGroup (NYSE:MAN), and Sage Therapeutics (NASDAQ:SAGE) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

The reluctance of millennials to spend their tax cuts could hurt the stock prices of many consumer companies. Shares of department stores such as Kohl’s (KSS) and an electronics retailer like Best Buy (BBY) have run up this year on expectations of consumers shopping till they drop this spring/summer. Considering there are more than 83 million millennials in the U.S., that’s a big pool of humans letting down some of the country’s biggest companies.

Retailers Take Center Stage: It’s “Black Friday,” meaning attention might turn to retailers like Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT), Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE: BBY), Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), and Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT), among others. Retail sales kicked up in October, and Halloween sales also looked pretty solid, which could point toward a strong winter holiday shopping season. Job growth has also been relatively healthy of late, another factor that could play into holiday sales. Jobless claims stayed below 300,000 last week for the 90th-consecutive week, the longest stretch in more than 45 years. We’ll get further insight on the jobs climate at the end of next week when November Non-farm payrolls data roll in, and that could provide more clues as to just how well-equipped consumers might be for those shopping expeditions.

To say Fitbit Inc (NYSE:FIT) went from being a hero to being a zero would be a considerable understatement. In 2015 shortly after its IPO, the world was certain its wearable device was going to revolutionize fitness. Less than two years later, you can barely give the things away.

It’s enough to convince an investor to mentally write-off the idea of wearables forever. Don’t let the rise and fall (and then more fall) of FIT deter you from the industry though. Fitbit had the right idea, more or less. It just failed to adapt and improve even when it became clear its first wave of products weren’t quite what they were hoped to be for the average fitness-minded consumers (a target market that was part of the problem). There’s a young-and-hungry company called CardioComm Solutions Inc. (OTCMKTS:EKGGF, CVE:EKG) that understands exactly why Fitbit was largely sidelines, and this company has responded before committing to products that miss the mark.

CardioComm Solutions is the name that makes wellness technology sold under the HeartCheck brand. Those devices are small, handheld ECG (electrocardiogram) readers that put the power of a doctor’s or hospital’s heart-monitoring hardware in the hands of individuals who can use them just as effectively. Its flagship products are the HeartCheck ECG Pen, for consumers – which is available without a prescription – and the HeartCheck ECG monitoring device (available only by prescription) which is a higher-functioning technology.

More products are on the way too. The ECG ‘Card’ is a credit-card sized device that syncs up with (and is powered by) being in close proximity to a smartphone. Also on the way is the HeartCheck band, worn on the wrist. It does a lot of the same things Fitbit bands do, but with the added benefit of being able to produce clinical-grade ECG readouts viewable not just by the user, but by a doctor, clinic, or call center if that user chooses to deliver them remotely using the comp

Fitbit (NYSE:FIT) was started in 2006 after now-CEO James Park was inspired by the Nintendo Wii with its combination of sensors, hardware, and software that created an engaging, physically active, and fun gaming experience. Park wanted to use this same combination to help people become more active and healthy, and the idea of Fitbit was born. Since then, the company has sold 76 million wearable devices, but wants to be known for more than its fitness trackers.

U.S. corporate debt is a "major risk going forward"…   That's what Andrew Lapthorne, the global head of quantitative strategy for French bank Société Générale, told his clients earlier this month.   In a note that sounded remarkably similar to Porter's warnings over the past year, Lapthorne cautioned that the outlook for U.S. businesses continues to deteriorate.   He said that companies have been "overspending" like never before in history. As Porter has explained, these companies have been loading up on record amounts of debt to buy back their own stock and boost earnings per share.   Meanwhile, Lapthorne also warned that the companies' ability to finance all that debt is increasingly uncertain. He believes U.S. corporate profitability is now in a "cyclical downtrend," and the earnings "recession" is likely to continue.
