With Greek finance minister Euclid Tsakalotos having warned late this May that there are “no excuses” for the nation not to receive the next instalment of its multi-billion-dollar bailout, some might be wondering if the medicine being doled out might be a step too far. But should Greece be released entirely from its debt to reboot the economy? One might even dub that a ‘Grelease’.

Mr Tsakalotos, the Oxford University-educated economist who was born in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, stated in recent days that the Greek government had “done its part”, adding “the ball is very much on the side of our creditors and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).” This came after discussions the previous week broke down between Eurozone finance ministers seeking unlock Greece’s next set of loans.

The left-wing minister and antithesis of his predecessor Yanis Varoufakis, said a deal at the next meeting this June was now an urgent matter. He was quoted by the BBC as saying: “There are no excuses for not getting this overall deal that the Greek economy so desperately needs in its efforts to access the markets.”

The Trump administration is back under pressure with Democrats in the House. According to reports, House Democrats have asked the IRS to give them six years of the president’s personal tax returns and corporate returns. Massachusetts Rep. Richard Neal, the head of the leader of the House Ways and Means Committee, has made the first request for tax returns of a sitting U.S. president in 45 years. The IRS has reportedly not replied to Neal’s demand, which has a set deadline of April 10. The request is likely set to unleash a legal battle between Democrats and the White House through 2020. Investors must pay close attention to a more important development. Last Friday (March 29), H.R. 1595, better known as the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act, passed the House Committee on Financial Services in a 45-15 vote. The bill will now head to the floor of the House of Representatives, where it is widely expected to pass. Turns out, everyone in Congress wants to be involved. The bill now has a staggering 152 cosponsors. You couldn’t even get 152 congressmen to agree on a bill that endorses sunshine. Now, investors are poised to make huge gains on this development. Money Morning Director of Cannabis Investing Research Greg Miller tells you how to profit today.

Shares of Constellation Brands Inc. (NYSE: STZ) are on the move as investors digest the firm’s earnings report. The earnings report comes just as the company announced plans to sell roughly 30 wine brands to Gallo in a deal worth about $1.7 billion. Don’t expect analysts to spend too much time exploring the fine ink on that deal. Instead, expect a lot of focus on the firm’s recent shift into the cannabis business and questions about its profit growth.

The world’s largest automaker is putting big money into electric vehicles in China.

Volkswagen (VLKAF) and its local partners plan to invest more than €10 billion ($11.8 billion) to build electric and hybrid cars in the country — the world’s biggest auto market — over the next seven to eight years.

More electric vehicles are sold in China than anywhere else on the planet — and the national government is pushing companies to design and build them on Chinese territory.

Under the plan announced Thursday, VW and its partners are aiming to develop and produce as many as 40 new electric and hybrid vehicle models in China between now and 2025. It expects the first of the new models to hit the Chinese market next year.

VW’s top China exec, Jochem Heizmann, said the German company is “determined to be at the forefront” of China’s electric vehicle revolution.

China accounts for about 50% of the global market for clean energy vehicles, according to investment firm East Capital. Chinese officials said two months ago that they were working on a plan to eventually phase out the production and sale of vehicles powered solely by fossil fuels.

Top 5 Low Price Stocks To Invest In 2019

Small-town general-merchandise retailer Shopko thrived for years by focusing most of its efforts on small and midsize cities where retail competition was less intense. However, the rise of Amazon.com upended that business model by bringing low prices to the whole country. As a result, Shopko was forced to declare bankruptcy last month.

At the time of its bankruptcy filing, Shopko planned to close about 100 of its 363 stores. But last week, the company more than doubled the number of planned store closures to more than 250. This dramatic move casts doubt on whether the company can survive at all. If Shopko fails, Kohl’s (NYSE:KSS) will be well positioned to cash in on its demise.

Another retailer is on the rocks

Shopko currently has 134 full-line stores averaging 80,000 square feet in size, making them about the same size as a typical Kohl’s store. It also operates more than 170 Shopko Hometown stores — which range from 15,000 to 35,000 square feet — in smaller markets. The company’s store base is heavily concentrated in the Midwest.

Best Stocks To Own For 2018: AVG Technologies N.V.(AVG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Igor Novgorodtsev]

InterActiveCorp (IACI) bought Ask.com for $1.85 billion in 2005. The new Perion will be worth only about 40% of that. After the merger, Perion will leapfrog its much larger rivals: Babylon and AVG (AVG). Finally, Perion should be able to increase its operating margins as it can spread its SG&A costs over a much larger base (Conduit EBITDA margin is 32% vs. Perion’s 23%). Perion will keep its senior management team intact: Josef Mandelbaum will remain its CEO and Yacov Kaufman its CFO. Perion has successfully orchestrated a roll-up acquisitions of privately-held Sweetpacks and Smilebox, so I have high confidence that they know how to integrate a new business.
