The IFO business climate indicators fell below expectation lining up with other forward-looking indicators for the German economy.
The IFO index was rebased as more service sector companies were added to the survey.

The business climate is cooling in Germany as fear of US-led trade wars escalating and the strength of Euro are both weighing on the export-oriented German economy. The headline IFO business climate indicators deteriorated to 102.1 in April, down from 103.3 reading in March and came out below market expectations. Highly respected German IFO business climate indicators lined up with the forerunner like ZEW index of investors confidence and the purchasing managers´ index published earlier in April.

The headline IFO business climate index was rebased and recalibrated in April after the IFO research Institute changed series from the base year of 2000 to the base year of 2005 as of May 2011 and then changed series to include services as of April 2018. The survey now includes 9,000 monthly survey responses from firms in manufacturing, service sector, trade and
construction.

Both sub-indices of headline IFO business climate indicator decelerated above expectations in April with expectation falling to 98..7 in April from 101.0 in March while current economic situation sub-index fell to 105.7 in April, down from 110.6 in March.

Hot Warren Buffett Stocks To Watch Right Now: Plains All American Pipeline L.P.(PAA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dustin Parrett]

We think Plains All American Pipeline L.P. (NYSE: PAA) is one of the best oil stocks to buy this year. In fact, we see a scenario where PAA stock could jump 20% in 2017.

  • [By ]

The market has pummeled master limited partnerships (MLPs) over the past few years due to the impact the oil market downturn had on their operations and business model. Among the hardest-hit have been oil pipeline MLP Plains All American Pipeline (NYSE:PAA) and gas pipeline giant Energy Transfer Partners (NYSE:ETP), both of which have lost more than half their value over the last three years. That persistent slump comes even though their turnaround strategies are beginning to gain steam. While these companies still have some work to do before they’re back on solid ground, both could deliver significant returns as they complete their plans and the oil market continues rebounding over the next few years. That upside potential makes them compelling options for investors with a higher tolerance for risk.

  • [By Dustin Parrett]

Plains All American Pipeline (NYSE: PAA) controls 4 million barrels of crude oil and natural gas a day.

And with higher oil prices and fewer restrictions leading to more drilling, PAA’s pipelines will be in demand in 2017.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

One of the largest projects is the Saddlehorn Pipeline, which Magellan is building with Plains All American Pipeline (NYSE:PAA) and Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC). Both Plains All American Pipeline and Magellan own 40% of the project, which puts their total investment at $230 million apiece. They expect the project to be fully operational early next year, which is noteworthy given its robust first-year economics. Magellan estimates that it will earn eight times EBITDA on the capital deployed, or roughly $28.8 million in annual EBITDA apiece for Magellan and Plains All American Pipeline on their investment.

Top 10 Heal Care Stocks To Buy For 2018

Growth versus value investing is one of the major debates in the investment world.  Growth stocks seem to have outperformed their value counterparts over the past few years. But the winning streak of growth investing took a hit this year with value stocks regaining lost glory.

It is currently speculated that value investing will likely continue its winning run in the upcoming years. Hence, adding potential stocks to one’s portfolio might prove to be an ideal option in the current scenario.

Value vs. Growth Investing: Long-Drawn Debate

Value investors seek to invest in stocks that are believed to be trading at a discounted value. Investors look for favorable value ratios including low price-to-earnings (P/E) and price-to-book value (P/B) ratios to identify potential value stocks. While a significant number of these stocks are also expected to come with solid dividend payments, these stocks are also expected to moderate growth prospects.

  • [By Peter Graham]

A long term performance chart shows the performance of mid cap BlackBerry Ltd heading back to breakeven levels whilethe performance of Samsung Electronics (OTCMKTS: SSNLF) and Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) have beenrising since last year:

The EU also started an antitrust investigation into Qualcomm for its alleged “predatory pricing.” That investigation hinges on whether Qualcomm’s QCT segment – whose customers included Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung (OTC:SSNLF) – sold chipsets used in mobile phones at or below cost in order to squeeze out rivals. If the EU finds Qualcomm guilty it could fine the company up to 10% of its global revenues.

Advisors’ Opinion:

Flexing the barbell strategy to balance Safe Havens with more cyclical exposures. In our view, industrials investors should be positioning their portfolio with a barbell strategy, with half of the exposure in Safe Havens like General Electric, Xylem (XYL), Danaher, Honeywell International, Roper Technologies (ROP), and AMETEK (AME), and the other half selectively in the cyclical names that are better positioned today, such as Pentair, HD Supply Holdings (HDS),Actuant (ATU), Atkore International Group (ATKR), Ingersoll-Rand, and Eaton (ETN). We still believe risk-reward is mostly balanced and that the macro will remain choppy into 2017, supporting a positioning in the defensive names. But if investor sentiment improves on not-worse news and earnings results, the more cyclical names could fare better.

Thanksgiving is almost here but the exit of both Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation (NYSE: PPC) and Smithfield Foods (NYSE: SFD) to focus on their chicken or pork businesses (the latter was also acquired by the Chinese) leaves just two big Thanksgiving turkey stocks, Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE: HRL) and Seaboard Corporation (NYSEAMEX: SEB), for investors to consider. According to the American Far Bureau, a 16-pound turkey will (on average) come in at a total of $22.74 this year or roughly $1.42 per pound for a decrease of 2 cents per pound or a total of 30 cents per whole turkey, compared to 2015. The price drop may be a transition back to the norm as the significant bird flu outbreak last year hurt the nations supply of both turkey and eggs.
