Sure, I will invest more in certain high-confidence picks than others, but without going overboard. This might limit the impact from a triple-digit winner in my High-Yield Investing portfolio, such as CME Group (Nasdaq: CME), where we are showing a 156% gain at last count, but it will also soften the blow from a laggard.

Top 5 Gold Stocks To Watch For 2018

Peter Krauth

The gold price in 2017 has taken a dramatic fall recently.

Since the beginning of March, gold prices are down 4.3% to $1,200. In fact, the metal has declined every single day this month for eight consecutive sessions.

But frankly, it should not come as a surprise. At least, not if you’ve been following me in this space.

After all, I’ve been talking about how the gold price had likely moved into overbought territory and that it was ripe for a correction.

Must See

Rare gold anomaly – an event so rare, it’s only happened twice in 20 years! The first time it created $1.25 billion in new wealth virtually overnight. The second time, it created a cash windfall of $6 billion. And it’s about to happen again. Find out more.

And the combination of a pending interest rate hike and a rallying dollar have teamed up to send the price of gold into this sell-off.

Top 5 Gold Stocks To Watch For 2018: NEW GOLD INC.(NGD)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The stock market lost ground on Monday, sending major market benchmarks lower by more than half a percentage point. The Dow lost its grip on the 20,000 mark in the wake of concerns about economic growth and new U.S. immigration policy, and some believe that the broader geopolitical climate could have a negative impact on global commerce that in turn could start affecting multinational corporations’ business prospects. In addition, bad news from some individual companies weighed on the markets, and Transocean (NYSE:RIG), Rite Aid (NYSE:RAD), and New Gold (NYSEMKT:NGD) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

Case in point, I’ve held CME Group (NYSE: CME) in my High-Yield Investing portfolio for almost four years now. When I first took a position in the summer of 2014, the stock offered a regular quarterly dividend of $0.47 per share that added up to a modest yield of 2.6%. Many income investors skipped over it without a second glance.

Best Gold Stocks To Buy Right Now

A new chart unexpectedly grabbed my attention recently… one that could have huge implications for the future of the U.S. stock market.   For the past month, I've been predicting a correction in the S&P 500 is right around the corner. But there's another side to the story…   If this correction happens the way I expect, it may trigger a key pattern in the stock market. This kind of setup doesn't happen often. But when it does, stocks have tended to see powerful rallies going forward… and this year, it could happen again.   Let's get right to it…   For the most part, the U.S. dollar and the S&P 500 move in opposite directions.   Stocks trading on the S&P 500 are priced in U.S. dollars, just like gold and oil. When the dollar is increasing in value, it takes fewer U.S. dollars to buy these assets… so their prices tend to fall.

With preferences for gold and volatility, however, they were largely in line with what the consensus called for in the event of a Trump victory— in other words, far off the mark.

Hot Gold Stocks To Watch For 2019

Stocks are higher globally today. Gold is lower. Yields are higher. This is all reflecting a more positive risk tone to open the week.

Let’s talk about why?

The French elections have been lining up as the next big hurdle for the global economy. A win by Le Pen would be destabilizing to the global financial system and the global economy because she is anti-euro and anti-European Union. She’s for reclaiming French sovereignty and culture–the Trump of the French elections.

With that in mind, the first round of French elections yesterday have Macron (the vote for stability) winning in a very divided vote. And Macron is now projected to beat Le Pen, as the other two candidates have backed Macron.

Here are the results from Sky News …

Case in point, I’ve held CME Group (NYSE: CME) in my High-Yield Investing portfolio for almost four years now. When I first took a position in the summer of 2014, the stock offered a regular quarterly dividend of $0.47 per share that added up to a modest yield of 2.6%. Many income investors skipped over it without a second glance.

Bloomberg

The S&P 500 finished little changed at 2,050.63, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1% to 17,660.71. The Nasdaq Composite dipped 0.2% to 4,717.09.

Guild Investment Management’s Monty Guild and team expect a spring pull back to be followed by a summer bounce:

Many world markets look toppy, with the U.S., Canada, and Brazil looking most attractive to buy after a short correction that is coming. While we are not bullish on most world stock markets, we believe that the U.S. market will experience a spring pull back, which could lead to a summer rally. The U.S. market is overbought from a technical perspective, with a high proportion of overbought stocks in the S&P 100. This overbought position makes the U.S. market vulnerable to a short-term decline of perhaps a few percent. This decline will provide a buying opportunity as stocks get a little cheaper. We believe that a combination of a lower Dollar and stronger economic growth will lead to an uptick in U.S. corporate profits in the second half of 2016. The weaker Dollar is highly significant, and we do not believe markets have fully digested its implications. We also see prospects for further appreciation in the Brazilian and Canadian currencies, as well as gold and oil, before year end.

Investors flock to stocks because they potentially offer lucrative growth, like the 55% gains of Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) just in 2017 alone. But stocks can also be volatile. Trivago NV (Nasdaq: TRVG), for instance, is down 44% on the year, and there’s a list of plenty of other underperformers in 2017 that have lost investors’ hard-earned money.

But Money Morning Resource Specialist Peter Krauth projects a safe investment to make in 2018 will also provide savvy investors long-term gains…

Companies hate to cut dividends. Knowing the backlash they’ll get from stockholders, many executives and board members consider it a desperate act of last resort. They will halt non-discretionary expenditures, reduce payroll and overhead, and even take on debt in order to maintain distributions.

And that’s exactly why dividend hikes send such a strong bullish signal. A company wouldn’t bump quarterly payouts to $0.60 per share from $0.50 unless it were fairly certain that incoming cash flows would be more than sufficient to cover the higher dividend, with room to spare. The last thing they want is to raise it today only to lower back down tomorrow. A dividend hike is a clear vote of confidence for future success.

The mall was created by accident, in some ways. Downtown Bloomington, Minnesota, lost its two largest corporate residents in 1982, football’s Minnesota Vikings and baseball’s Minnesota Twins. Over 78 acres became available for development. After debates about what should happen to the land, local officials decided to give it to financiers who wanted to build America’s largest home for retailers. It opened in 1992, two years before Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) was founded. Early tenants included Macy’s Inc. (NYSE: M), the Sears division of Sears Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ: SHLD) and Nordstrom Inc. (NYSE: JWN). All three have been injured by the current downturn in traditional retail sales.

Shares of retail stores chain Sears Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:SHLD) have rallied more than 40% in last five trading sessions, with the stock gaining more than18% in yesterday’s trading session. Earlier, Sears stock had plunged after the company disclosed to SEC in its annual report that “substantial doubt exists related to the company’s ability to continue as a going concern”. As it can be seen from Sears’ technical analysis chart, the stock has found support from 50-day simple moving average which had acted as a strong resistance on multiple occasions in the past. Since then, Sears stock has made a strong comeback. The stock breached the 100 day SMA resistance line on strong volumes. Sears Holdings stock is now facing resistance from 200-day SMA.In a bullish move, MACD has risen above the signal line. The uptrend inSears Holdings stock is supported by a short squeeze. 17.99 million sharesor 76.4% of the total float is currently shorted (as per the latest report) with days to cover being 11.83 days. Given the strong surge in the stock price in last few days, many shorts will be trying to cover their position which could send the stock higher.

Department stores and specialty retailers lost the most ground, likely due to continuing satisfaction from shopping online. Walmart Inc. The fact is Amazon continues to exert insane amounts of pressure on the weak (J.C. Penney (JCP) , Sears (SHLD) ) while also unearthing new ways to win business despite formidable rivals. The pressure is likely to decimate the mall by this time in 2023. It’s nuts. Also nuts is how CEO Jeff Bezos could turn on the profit spigot at the drop of the dime, this time around probably doing so to shove it in Donald Trump’s face.

U.S. equities finished mixed on Monday amid quiet trading as focus remained on the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and the heavy flooding in Houston. But there was action if you knew where to look, with precious metals in particular on the move.

A few dynamics are driving this. For one, headlines are being filled more and more with dread about the approaching debt ceiling debacle. Two, the Federal Reserve is preparing for the start of “quantitative tightening” next month. And three, stocks look vulnerable to a pullback here as breadth continues to narrow, risk measures remain red-hot, and valuations are at extremes.

In the end, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost a fraction, the S&P 500 gained 0.1%, the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.3% and the Russell 2000 added 0.4%, marginally retaking its 200-day moving average.

Elsewhere, Treasury bonds were mixed, the dollar was under pressure, gold gained 1.3% and oil fell 2.7% as Harvey caused refineries to shut down and would worsen the crude oil oversupply.
