Top 10 Low Price Stocks To Buy For 2019

Fasten your seat belts. Dramatic swings in the oil market may soon become the norm.

After a prolonged period of low prices and relative calm, oil watchers are predicting a surge of volatility following President Trump’s decision to reimpose sanctions on Iran. Crude has spiked 19% this year, to prices unseen since late 2014.

Taking away Iranian oil after production cuts by Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Russia effectively means the margin for error in the market will become razor-thin.

In 2015 and 2016, there was so much supply that crude prices crashed. Now that buffer has been worn down so much that the market is extra-sensitive to geopolitical dangers and other shocks.

But that’s not all. Other powerful drivers are likely to jerk oil prices around, including the resurgent US dollar and a surge in production from Texas shale fields.

“Without a doubt, there are a variety of forces that could upset the balance and move us into a more volatile period,” said Ben Cook, portfolio manager at BP Capital Fund Advisors, an energy investment firm.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Friday was a good day on Wall Street, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average once again climbing triple digits and other major benchmarks following suit with similar-sized percentage gains. The U.S. economy continued to move forward last month, and the latest jobs numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed ongoing progress in creating new positions and reducing unemployment rates. Yet some stocks weren’t able to join in the celebration that accompanied the strong economic report. Petroleo Brasileiro (NYSE:PBR), Golar LNG Partners (NASDAQ:GMLP), and Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE:ANF) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

  • [By Stephan Byrd]

Media stories about Golar LNG Partners (NASDAQ:GMLP) have trended somewhat positive on Monday, according to Accern Sentiment. Six months after hurricanes ravaged the island, Puerto Rico experienced a tourism boom this Easter.

Tourists flocked to the island for Easter, Passover and spring break vacations in record numbers, according to The Puerto Rico Tourism Company, a San Juan promoter for tourism on the island.

Many hotels operated at or near 100% occupancy during the holiday weekend that began on March 30. The Tourism Company said the surge is evidence that the tourism is on the rebound.

Travel and tourism are hugely important to the bankrupt island and accounted for more than 8% of its GDP in 2017, according to a World Travel and Tourism Council report.

Nils Stolzlechner, general manager of the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort near San Juan, said the 400-room hotel was sold out over the Easter weekend — a record for sales and occupancy. He said that guests spent twice as much at the restaurants and the casinos compared to any other Easter weekend over the last five years.

As I have pointed out before, Latin American e-commerce leader Mercadolibre (NASDAQ:MELI)is enjoying some pretty serious demographic and technological tailwinds. With internet, smartphone, and e-commerce penetration far behind comparable adoption in the U.S., these trends will likely continue to drive growth for the foreseeable future. Latin American e-commerce giant MercadoLibre (NASDAQ:MELI) has capitalized on fundamental growth prospects for years. Sometimes, however, often-overlooked factors can hold back a stock. When the company released its fourth-quarter financial results in February, it reported revenue of $437 million, up 70% year over year in U.S. dollars and almost doubling in local-currency terms. It also announced that it would be deconsolidating the results of its Venezuelan subsidiary, which had long been a drag on its financials due to persistent currency devaluations and spiraling hyperinflation. After doubling last year, MercadoLibre’s stock had gained over 30% again by early March.

Doubling your money in a relatively short time is much tougher. It typically involves investing in younger, less established companies that have lots of growth potential but could give a lot of ground if a few things don’t swing their way. There are, though, some stocks that look like they have a double in them over a relatively short time frame, and three of our investing contributors think Spark Therapeutics (NASDAQ:ONCE), Tractor Supply (NASDAQ:TSCO), and American Tower (NYSE:AMT) fit the bill.

Top 5 Casino Stocks To Watch Right Now: Arch Coal, Inc. (ARCH)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The stock market climbed sharply on Thursday, responding well to favorable earnings results from several corners of the market. Major benchmarks were up 1% to 2%, with particularly good performance from the Nasdaq Composite thanks to the tech sector’s outperformance during the day. Yet some stocks suffered from bad news that cast doubt on companies’ ability to benefit from generally favorable business conditions. MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM), Arch Coal (NYSE:ARCH), and LendingTree (NASDAQ:TREE) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

The VanEck Vectors Coal ETF has gained 1.1% to $12.28 at 2:01 p.m. today, while Arch Coal (ARCH), which resumed listed trading yesterday after emerging from bankruptcy, has fallen 3% to $62.98.

Shares of Arch Coal Inc (NYSE:ARCH) are slumping today, down nearly 15% as of 1:04 p.m. EDT, after the company reported lackluster first-quarter results and a muted outlook for2018.

Nevada may become the first state to open Medicaid to all residents.

The Democratic-led state legislature passed a bill earlier this month that would allow anyone to purchase a Medicaid-like policy, regardless of their income. Governor Brian Sandoval, a Republican, has until midnight Friday to sign or veto the bill, which was approved along party lines.

The bill calls for the state to create the Nevada Care Plan, which would be separate from the state’s Medicaid program but offer nearly all the same benefits. It could either be administered by the state’s Medicaid department or officials could contract with an insurer to run it.

The legislation contains few details on how the program would work or what the premiums would be. Instead, it’s more of a framework to help Nevadans access coverage that’s more affordable and comprehensive, particularly if Congress repeals Obamacare, said the bill’s sponsor, Assemblyman Mike Sprinkle.

“I really, truly believe and have for a long time that health care is a right and responsibility for the government to provide,” he said. “This is a way for us to do that.”

Top Heal Care Stocks To Watch Right Now: Caseys General Stores, Inc.(CASY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Brian Stoffel]

For a number of years,Casey’s General Stores (NASDAQ:CASY) investors were rewarded by the small-town convenience chain’s decision to become a major vendor of pizza and other prepared foods. But with that success has come increased competition. Combined with somewhat stagnant economies in the areas that Casey’s operates — namely, towns of less than 5,000 people in middle America — the company has had trouble meeting its own expectations. That trend continued on Monday night when Casey’s announced earnings for the third quarter of its fiscal year.

  • [By Lisa Levin]

Casey's General Stores Inc (NASDAQ: CASY) reported weaker-than-expected earnings for its second quarter.

Casey's reported Q2 earnings of $1.28 per share on revenue of $2.154 billion. Analysts were expecting earnings of $1.40 per share on sales of $2.18 billion.

Wellington Shields’ Frank Gretz notes that the “market is supposed to be anticipatory.” He explains:

Opinions follow price memories do as well. If higher prices alone were not enough, the news always seems to improve as prices move higher. After all, the media always needs to explain the higher prices, and the good therefore becomes the emphasis. For example, theres little talk of the all-but-certain pending rate hike. Since the election the market has had a remarkable run, one built more on policy hope than policy reality. This complaint is met with the retort that it has only been 50 days, or whatever. Fair enough, but the point remains. Then, too, the market is supposed to do this, its supposed to be anticipatory. Investors are getting this, and hence, what has been persistent strength. Interestingly, investors will begin to believe they always got it no one was really worried about a possible trade war, and so on. The psychologist Baruch Fischhoff called this creeping determinism, the idea that unexpected events turn into the expected. In other words, we will remember being more bullish in November than we were.

I was right on schedule with CVS Health (NYSE:CVS), picking up shares just under $74. Recall that this stock has been absolutely crushed in the last 6 months and is now one of my worst performing stocks this year among those that I follow. When I asked what the hell was going on in the name, I told you that CVS shares were a bargain under $75. It didn’t take long for the stock to surpass $80, but the brakes have been applied. We had some pin action decline when there were issues with pharmacy benefit managers a week ago. Then we had the Fed rate hike. Now we are getting another big haircut on the back of updated guidance. Before discussing, I want to discuss the positives.

CV has really grown to be more than a pharmacy as it now has 1,000 walk-in medical clinics offering check-ups, screenings and immunizations, among other services. On top of that, CVS Health is a leading pharmacy benefits manager and now has over 70 million members in its pharmacy benefit plan. My recommendation has been to keep it simple. Buy on dips, sell on rips. Don’t buy or sell all at once, do it in phases. This is the recipe for long-term success. As far as CVS goes it has been in a nice trading around the core position situation for years.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Monday began on a down note for the stock market, as the Dow Jones Industrials fell back down below the 20,000 level. Major market benchmarks finished with losses of 0.6% to 0.8%, and some market commentators attributed the declines to nervousness about the Trump administration’s actions to clamp down on immigration. Others noted that the latest reading of U.S. economic growth showed a 1.9% rise in gross domestic product for the fourth quarter, finishing the year with an overall GDP increase of just 1.6%, down a full percentage point from 2015’s growth. Despite the overall sullen mood in the market, some stocks gained ground, and GoPro (NASDAQ:GPRO), Movado Group (NYSE:MOV), and IPG Photonics (NASDAQ:IPGP) were among the best performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so well.

In addition, w/ inventory restocking & current prices making further investment attractive, despite current excesses, we believe iron ore prices should be ~$40/t (i.e., below marginal costs); in this fashion, w/ Chinese real estate investment on the decline, we view iron ore spot prices >$62/t as a stretch. So what has been propping prices? In our view, one word restocking; first by the mills, undergoing the biggest restocking effort of Chinese steel in >6-yrs., & then by the traders, which have built their iron ore port stocks to a record, w/ days of inventory at a 2.5-yr. high (Ex. 18-19). Yet, w/ data pointing to peak steel inventory, implying risk to n-term ore demand, & the govt probing speculative trading, we see the current restocking cycle as very much so in the later innings

Freeport-McMoRan’s market capitalization fell to $19.2 billion today from $20.2 billion yesterday. It reported a net loss of $4 billion on sales of $14.8 billion in 2016.

On CNBC's Fast Money Halftime Report, Jon Najarian spoke about unusually high options activity in Freeport-McMoRan Inc (NYSE: FCX). He said that traders were buying the January 13, 14-strike calls on Tuesday. He added that these calls expire prior to the earnings release and he is wondering if someone is betting that the company is going to pre-announce earnings results. Around 9,000 contracts were traded in the first half of the session and Jon Najarian decided to follow the trade. He is planning to hold the long position in Freeport-McMoRan for a week.

Some energy stocks just cant seem to catch a break and Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (FCX) is one of those energy stocks. As we all know, FCX made some bad moves and decided to get into the oil business just as prices were peaking. That wouldnt be so bad, if it wasnt for the massive debt it took out to buy stakes in the gulf and other regions.

Interestingly, it’s the same company that replaced Yahoo on the Nasdaq 100. The company is MercadoLibre (Nasdaq: MELI), headquartered in Buenos Aires, Argentina. And like Yahoo before it, MercadoLibre (“Free Market” in Spanish) was founded in 1999 by a Stanford Graduate student, Marcos Galperin.

But seeing is believing, right?

“Take Mercadolibre Inc (NASDAQ: MELI), for example. When the stock market fell, they had enough cash in the bank to weather the storm; meanwhile, competitor DeRemate didn’t, and thus ended falling in oblivion. So, the lesson is: money is not a commodity.”

Top 5 Performing Stocks To Invest In Right Now: CGG(CGG)

CGG SA (ADR) (NYSE: CGG) shares shot up 32 percent to $7.15 after the company reported an agreement in principle on financial restructuring plan with main creditors and DNCA.

First up is French oil service firm CGG Veritas (CGG)
. The Eurozone-based energy stock hasn’t exactly posted blockbuster performance in 2013, but investors who ignore CGG for the final stretch of the year could be making a big mistake. That’s because of a bullish technical pattern that’s emerging in shares right now.

CGG spent most of the last eight months looking anything but bullish. But an ascending triangle pattern is changing that. The pattern is formed by horizontal resistance to the upside at $26, and uptrending support to the below shares. Basically, as CGG bounces in between those two technical levels, it’s getting squeezed closer and closer to a breakout above $26. When that happens, traders have a buy signal.

The ascending triangle pattern in CGG Veritas isn’t exactly textbook. That’s because the setup is forming at the bottom of a downtrend, rather than in the middle of an uptrend – but it’s a mistake to get caught up on the textbook pictures of what trading patterns are supposed to look like. On a move through $26, the trading implications are just as actionable.
