Hot Stocks For 2019

Believe it or not, we’re nearly halfway through 2018. At least so far, this year hasn’t been as great for big pharma stocks as 2017 was. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some big pharma stocks that have performed well in 2018.

The three best big pharma stocks so far this year are Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (NYSE:TEVA), GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE:GSK), and Merck (NYSE:MRK). What’s behind the success for these big pharma stocks — and can their momentum continue?

1. Teva

Teva easily ranks as the biggest big pharma winner in 2018 thus far. The Israel-based drugmaker’s share price has soared close to 24% year to date. That’s a far different story than 2017, when Teva lost nearly half of its market cap.

This year started out looking dismal for Teva. One bright spot was that Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway bought a stake in the troubled drugmaker. That news only provided a temporary spark for Teva, though.

Hot Stocks For 2019: Cameco Corporation(CCJ)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Denison isn’t a great investment choice for most investors despite the potential upside of the Wheeler River project. It is still early days, and there’s a huge amount of spending that needs to be done, not to mention the inherent risks of building a mine (big projects like this don’t always work out as planned once you put shovels in the ground). Only investors with very strong feelings about the uranium market and a deep understanding of this specific project should be looking here. Most investors looking at uranium would be much better off with a company like Cameco Corp. (NYSE:CCJ). This miner has operating mine assets and additional mines that are currently mothballed but that could be brought on line fairly quickly if there were enough demand. It’s a similar story, but one that doesn’t involve huge construction costs and risks.

Hot Stocks For 2019: Tata Motors Ltd(TTM)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Shares of Indian automaker Tata Motors (NYSE:TTM) fell sharply on Tuesday morning, after the company announced that its important Jaguar Land Rover subsidiary will cut production after a sharp drop in sales in China.

Hot Blue Chip Stocks To Watch For 2019

General Electric was blasted on Wednesday by workers, retirees and shareholders bemoaning the downfall of the company they love.

At its annual meeting, GE (GE) got an earful from employees and investors who pleaded with management to right the ship after a disastrous year.

“I believe it was arrogance and a series of bad business decisions,” former employee Bill Freeda said. “Our board of directors clearly has been AWOL.”

Another shareholder said: “GE, which was once one of the preeminent companies in the world — the bluest of blue chips — is now an embarrassment.”

The past 12 months has been one of the darkest periods in GE’s 126-year history. A cash crisis, brought on by years of bad deal-making, forced GE to cut its dividend in half and lay off thousands of workers. GE’s stock price has crashed by 50%, and calls to kick it out of the Dow have grown louder.

Despite the deep criticism of past and current GE leaders, the company’s nominees to the board were all elected on Wednesday. None of the shareholder proposals calling for reform were adopted, though one pushing for splitting the CEO and chairman roles received strong support.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Steve Symington]

Shares of Zynga (NASDAQ:ZNGA) climbed 16.5% in February, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence, after the mobile gaming specialist announced solid fourth-quarter 2018 results and encouraging forward guidance.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The stock market had another session of quiet trading on Tuesday, leaving most major benchmarks close to where they started. Declines early in the day gave way to more promising news from the bond market, where interest rates stabilized following last week’s big jump. Geopolitical and macroeconomic concerns continue to linger, and recent reports suggest weakening confidence in the prospects for global economic growth. Yet some companies benefited from good news that overcame the lackluster mood on Wall Street, and Zynga (NASDAQ:ZNGA), Pyxus International (NYSE:PYX), and Papa John’s International (NASDAQ:PZZA) were among the best performers on the day. Here’s why they did so well.

Monday was a generally down day on Wall Street, with major benchmarks giving up early-morning gains to finish modestly lower. Most market participants focused the bulk of their attention on deteriorating financial conditions in Turkey, with signs that the plunge in the value of the nation’s currency could have impacts across the globe. For instance, Argentina had to boost a key interest rate by 5 percentage points to 45% in order to defend its own currency, and in the U.S., financial stocks were generally under some pressure as investors tried to assess possible exposure if the Turkish crisis extends outward. Even with those difficulties, some companies had good news that sent their shares higher. Nielsen Holdings (NYSE:NLSN), Diebold Nixdorf (NYSE:DBD), and Antares Pharma (NASDAQ:ATRS) were among the best performers on the day. Here’s why they did so well.

Alphabet’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) autonomous car division, Waymo, recently signed a contract to add Jaguar’s first all-electric car to its fleet of self-driving vehicles. For the Google parent company, the deal will be a blip on its pathto driving automation, albeit an exciting one. Best Safest Stocks To Watch Right Now

On the lookout for safe dividends? (Who isn’t, right?)

These days, you generally have three options: large-cap stocks with long dividend histories, municipal bonds and US Treasuries.

Treasuries are considered the safest of that group, and large-cap stocks the riskiest, but they’re still much safer than plenty of other investments, such as small caps and junk bonds.

I’ll show you two low-risk investments that are great buys now in a moment. But first, I want to tell you why recent events have called the safety of some of the options I just named into question.

Let’s start by looking at the following chart:

“Safe” Assets Turn Volatile

First, note how the iShares S&P National AMT-Free Municipal Bond Fund (MUB), a good proxy for municipal bonds as a whole, is the least volatile of the three funds shown above. But right now, it faces a steep downturn relative to its earlier stability.

For example, say Remind my wife about the party and say don’t forget to pick up a bottle of red wine tonight. Siri will know who your spouse is (or will ask you once) and place that in the To: field, and because you said about the party, Siri knows you want that in the Subject (Re:) field. On Tuesday, our Under the Radar Moversnewsletter suggested going long small cap digital health (mHealth) stock DarioHealth Corp (NASDAQ: DRIO):

The entry here is rooted in the rebound’s “second wind,” which materialized today. You can see the late-Janaury/early-February rally was nice, but went too far, too fast. Sure enough, the profit-takers dug in. There weren’t a ton of profit-takers though – there was just a distinct lack of buyers. The next wave of buyers are diving in today, seeing last week’s support at the 20-day moving average line. We know there are more buyers than sellers here because today’s sizeable gain is unfurling on huge volume.
