Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks For 2019

Should I stay or should I go?

If you’ve been singing this 1981 tune by the English punk rock band The Clash to yourself since late September, you are not alone.

In the fourth-quarter selloff last year, U.S. equities lost $4 trillion in combined market value. For those who had chosen to stay and not to go, a sharp market bounce has helped recover much of the losses: after the 17% rally off the December low, the S&P 500 has now returned to early January 2018 levels.

For the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100, the decline was deeper, but the bounce was sharper. At its lowest levels of 2018, the Nasdaq was down 23% from its highs. Since its December lows, though, it has rallied some 19%.

As a result, the Nasdaq is now higher by about 10% from its 2017 levels.

Top 10 Blue Chip Stocks For 2019: GlaxoSmithKline PLC(GSK)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Around a year ago, the partners launched an eczema drug that’s already surpassed Praluent on the sales charts, and a possible expansion to asthma could send Dupixent sales through the roof. In studies supporting an application under review at the moment, Dupixent reduced severe attacks by up to 67% for some patients with uncontrolled asthma. It also led to lung function measurements that suggest it can compete with GlaxoSmithKline’s (NYSE:GSK) Nucula for a slice of a global market for asthma treatments expected to reach $56.5 billion by 2025.

Because Heplisav-B requires fewer doses and is reportedly more potent than GlaxoSmithKline’s (NYSE:GSK) market-leading Engerix-B, investors seem to have gotten the impression that the vaccine’s commercial launch would be smooth sailing right out of the gate. The unfortunate reality, though, is that this is Dynavax’s first commercial launch of any kind, and it takes time to build relationships with key opinion leaders, third-party payers, and physicians.

If you haven’t looked at GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE:GSK) and Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY) in several years, you probably wouldn’t recognize them today. Eli Lilly recently spun off its animal health segment, and Glaxo’s merging its consumer health business with Pfizer’s (NYSE:PFE).

Wall Street had a down day on Thursday, with the trade-sensitive industrial side of the market seeing the largest declines on news that the U.S. and Canada had imposed a set of matching tariffs on each other. The Dow lost more than 200 points, but declines were somewhat less extensive on a percentage basis for other parts of the market. Crude oil prices also moved lower, and the general sense among investors was one of uncertainty about how these initial disputes would evolve over time. Moreover, some bad news from key sectors of the economy weighed on individual stocks. Dollar Tree (NASDAQ:DLTR), Guess? (NYSE:GES), and Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.
