Related KOL Coal Companies Lobby For Clean Energy Subsidies Silver Shines Among 2016's Best ETFs

The VanEck Vectors Coal ETF (NYSE: KOL) was one of last year's best-performing non-leveraged exchange-traded funds for a simple reason: Of the two nominees for the U.S. presidency, one was vocal in her disdain for the coal industry while one vowed to restore the industry's lost jobs.

President Donald Trump, obviously, was the candidate that promised to restore coal country's lost glory and KOL responded. The ETF is doing so again this year with a year-to-date gain of almost 18 percent. That means KOL has nearly doubled in value over the past year. Still, there are ample indications that Trump's promises to coal miners will be hard to keep.

Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks For 2019: MPLX LP(MPLX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

MPLX (NYSE:MPLX) has undergone a significant transformation over the past year and a half. The master limited partnership (MLP) completed several transactions with its oil refining parent Marathon Petroleum (NYSE:MPC), which diversified its midstream portfolio and eliminated costly management fees. Those moves position MPLX to continue growing its rock-solid 6.8%-yielding payout at a healthy clip for the next several years, making it an excellent option for income-seeking investors to consider buying.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

The biggest contributor to growth during the quarter was Enbridge Energy’s Bakken assets, where earnings jumped 77% due to the completion of the Bakken Pipeline System last June. Income also rose on the Lakehead System, though that was mostly due to the timing of operating expenses, which helped offset lower pipeline rates resulting from the impact of lower U.S. corporate taxes. The Mid-Continent System’s profitability also improved due to higher storage revenue and lower costs, which offset the impact from the sale of the Ozark Pipeline to MPLX LP (NYSE:MPLX) last year.

  • [By Ethan Ryder]

Mplx Lp (NYSE:MPLX) has earned an average rating of “Buy” from the sixteen ratings firms that are presently covering the company, Marketbeat.com reports. Two research analysts have rated the stock with a sell recommendation, three have given a hold recommendation and ten have assigned a buy recommendation to the company. The average twelve-month target price among analysts that have issued ratings on the stock in the last year is $41.33.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

MPLX (NYSE:MPLX) currently expects to increase its 7.1%-yielding distribution by 10% this year. Furthermore, the MLP has $2.2 billion of expansion projects underway, which should fuel it to keep growing the payout in the future. However, an interesting catalyst developed earlier in the year when MPLX’s parent company, refining giant Marathon Petroleum, agreed to buy fellow refiner Andeavor. What makes that deal interesting to MPLX is that Andeavor owns several midstream assets as well as a stake in MLP Andeavor Logistics. It seems highly likely that Marathon will eventually sell those midstream assets to MPLX as well as merge the two MLPs. Those transactions have the potential to move the needle for MPLX, which is what makes it a compelling company to watch.
